About me

Hi, my name is Kate and I am a student counsellor. I am studying an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Derby. Counselling has always been my passion since accessing therapy at various points in my life. Counselling has allowed me to understand and support myself on a deeper emotional level. Since completing my undergraduate degree, I now work in the emotional wellbeing sector for the charity, Action for Children, as a Young Person’s Practitioner. I work with children and young people on an CBT intervention basis focusing on anxiety, stress, self-esteem, anger and managing emotions. I am looking forward to branching out to work with 18+, to expand my knowledge and skill set. In my spare time, I enjoy spending downtime with my family and friends, going on long country walks and a relaxing trip to the spa!

My therapeutic approach

My therapeutic approach is an integrative one, through the use of three approaches of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person Centred Therapy and Attachment Theory. The use of an integrative approach is suggested to enrich the client’s growth rather than a singular modality or approach. Establishing an effective therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is one that is crucial for the client’s personal growth within therapy, which I can offer through a safe, warm environment.

Qualifications and training

I have completed a Level 2 and Level 3 in Counselling Skills and Communications, a BA (Hons) Children, Young People and Families at York St John University and I am now studying towards a master’s at the University of Derby, MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Professional body membership

I am a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere to their code of ethics for standard practice in counselling. I also work closely with my clinical supervisor at all times.
