About me

Hello, my name is Iman. I am a student counsellor completing my MSc in Person-Centered counselling and psychotherapy at Keele University. My primary ways to de-stress often involve being outdoors in nature, in the sun, surrounded by animals, a good comedy or a fun board game. I have worked in the mental health field as a counsellor for mental health charities in the past. There I learned how to help facilitate people through their journey with issues such as trauma, low mood, anxiety, guilt/shame. Having always been interested in Psychology I chose to take the talking therapies route because I saw the benefits of a strong therapeutic relationship in helping others feel comfort when seeking and engaging in therapy which can begin by feeling quite daunting. As a result, a comfortable judgement free atmosphere is what I will work to provide. My areas of expertise lie in Stress and Anxiety, be it work related, family, friends’, relationships or just general stress/anxiety. Clients have said that exploring what causes their body and mind to react to triggers around the atmosphere helps them connect to their behaviours to their thoughts. Through understanding that link they then feel they can work on mitigating it. I work on helping that link become clearer as well as helping the client find the best solutions for them to alleviate some of their discomfort.

My therapeutic approach

My training to date has been primarily Person-Centered. By being Person-Centered I leave autonomy with my client in choosing where they would like our sessions to start and go. As I provide an experience of empathy, honesty and unconditional positive regard, I would like for my client to feel safe to explore their thoughts and feelings and unpack their concerns at their own pace. While unpacking their concerns my job will be to help facilitate them through their exploration with support and structure when helpful. This will hopefully support clients to make positive and lasting changes that help them feel more in control of their lives again.

Qualifications and training

I am currently working on completing my MSc in Person-Centered counselling and Psychotherapy from Keele University. I also have an MSc in Psychological studies from the University of Glasgow. Furthermore, I have received training in Solution focused therapy work while working as a mental health counsellor for Childline. So even though I am primarily trained in helping the client find their own solutions I do have training in more specific ways to help the client move forward if they feel stuck.

Professional body membership

I am a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere to their code of ethics for standard practice in counselling. I also work closely with my clinical supervisor at all times.
