About me

After working in education for many years and following the death of a close family member to suicide, I became very interested in the importance of counselling and talking therapies to help people stay mentally healthy and overcome their difficulties.  I became a bereavement support worker with Cruse Bereavement Care. This then led me to retrain as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist.  I want to support people to know that they are not alone, to explore ways to overcome their fears and to find their way out of darkness.

My therapeutic approach

I use an Integrative approach to support my clients, drawing on Attachment Theory, Person Centred Therapy and CBT, depending on each client’s personalised needs.  Each client is individual and will respond to things differently which is why I really value and promote an integrative approach.  My approach concentrates on creating an understanding, accepting, non-judgemental and caring environment in which clients can explore their concerns and find more effective ways of dealing with their challenges.  By exploring thoughts and feelings, using the integrative approach, clients will gain more insight and understanding of themselves, their motivations, goals and behaviour.  By working with me integratively, I can tailor a therapeutic approach which meets individual client needs, priorities and goals. For more information on Integrative approaches, please see our Guide to Therapeutic Approaches.

Qualifications and training

I am currently working to complete my MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Derby.  I have a BSc in English and History and an MSc in Education Management.  I am also a qualified Mental Health First Aider.

Professional body membership

I'm a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and bound by their code of ethics for standard practice in counselling. I also work closely with my clinical supervisor at all times.
